THE COMMONS
DIFC, DUBAI
In the heart of buzzing Dubai, where styles and cultures collide, we took on the challenge of transforming a clunky series of boxed-in rooms into an open, versatile playground designed for connection, creativity, and a little bit of mischief.
We stripped the space down to its bones and reconfigured it into three distinct zones, separated by sleek ribbed glass and aluminum sliding doors to keep everything feeling open and fluid. At the core is the lounge, a space that wears its warmth on its sleeves. I designed a striking charcoal-toned wooden magazine library along one wall, while we wrapped the space in oak panels to bring in softness and flow. A sculptural plant perched on an organic off-white table welcomes you at the entrance, and a wine-toned floating coffee counter curated with colorful ceramics and vases adds a sense of daily ritual and joy.
To the right, the vibe shifts to more expressive, more unexpected. A seven meter bespoke wallpaper I created with a talented Arabic calligrapher tells a visual story of Dubai’s pulse: music, architecture, iconic landmarks, and cultural layers. We paired this with comfy lounge seating, a foosball table, a retro Galaga arcade machine, and a cozy TV nook for downtime or impromptu fun.
At the other end, the mood refocuses. We designed a cozy meeting room for collaboration, anchored by a custom concrete table that of course doubles as a table tennis setup when the work is done. Acoustic panels in a rhythmic pattern support both form and function, tying it all together with the space’s spirited palette.
