STUDIO 29

Recreation room, DIFC, Dubai

Index Tower is one of those rare buildings in DIFC that’s full of both young energy and growing families. When we were asked to design a single, cohesive recreation room that could adapt from an adults’ fitness zone in the morning to a playful haven for kids in the afternoon, I saw it as an opportunity to blend purpose with personality.

We reimagined the entire space, starting with a lightly patterned black and white vinyl flooring, visually engaging, practical, and playful enough to bridge both functions. It also paired beautifully with the adjoining lush greenery that adds vibrancy and life.

One side of the room is dedicated to fitness. I collaborated with a British artist to create a magical wall mural that set the tone for the space; calm yet energizing, inspiring movement, breath, and focus. This area now supports everything from yoga and Pilates to TRX and boxing, with a layout designed to feel both dynamic and grounded.

On the opposite side, we opened up the plan to welcome kids into a world of play.

We designed a climbing wall, rope swings, ladders, and soft safety mats to encourage movement and adventure. It’s a space where little ones can jump, explore, and release their after school energy.

At the center, I carved out a softer zone with cozy cubicles, perfect for babies and toddlers to lounge with their moms after nursery. The flow between zones is natural and inclusive, turning the room into a true family-friendly retreat where wellness and play happily coexist.
